    The purpose of the survey was to give you an opportunity to let us know, anonymously if you preferred, what you liked about working for LAC, what you don’t like, and what changes or adjustments you would like us to implement. Of course there are some things we can’t change- to death and taxes I would add insurance plans, although we are in close communication with our various providers to negotiate the best deals that we can.
  • Michael Chesnes, Science Reference Librarian at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, will be the editor of the next 10 issues of Star Dust Magazine, a publication of the Washington, DC-area National Capital Astronomers, Inc., a non-profit organization that advances space technology, astronomy and related sciences through education: lectures, presentations, publications, expeditions, and other means.   • Michael Chesnes, Science Reference Librarian, Charles Early, Engineering Librarian, Pat Lynch, Clerk, and April Tinsley, Interlibrary Loan Technician, LAC employees at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, received warm kudos from a library patron for their dedication to excellent service. The patron, a visiting physicist in the heliostudies laboratory over the past four summers, cited the staff for their exemplary service and their attention to the individual patron. (Sep. 4)

Charles received a Contractor Excellence Award for his exemplary reference and research services. Bridget received a Contractor Innovation Excellence Award for her efforts launching a pilot for the MyiLibrary e-book service.

    More than two and a half years after Tulane University’s library was flooded with eight feet of water in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, a recovery team has begun returning 210,000 salvaged items to its shelves, it was announced last week.
  • Tulane Libraries Recovery Center Celebrates Integration of Restored Books to Howard Tilton Memorial Library Collection, April 2, 2008
    Library Associates Companies (LAC) is pleased to announce that the first materials restored by the Tulane Libraries Recovery Center project team have been returned to the shelves of Howard-Tilton Memorial Library at Tulane University. The Recovery Center was created in response to the damage done to library materials during and in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in August 2005. The basement of Tulane University’s Howard-Tilton Memorial Library - an area about the size of a football field - was flooded with approximately eight feet of water. The basement housed a music library and a very large collection of government documents, newspapers, and microforms. In addition to the main library, Jones Hall, which houses the library’s Special Collections, received about four feet of water.
